Activity 2 - Classical Conditioning |
|
Classical Conditioning is a physical event, a stimulus, that initially does not elicit a particular response, but gradually elicits a specific response when paired with a second stimulus. Looking at Pavlov's experiment, he noticed that the dog salivates when he sees food (unconditioned stimulus). The food is then associated with a ring of a bell and the dog still salivates. The bell becomes a conditioned stimulus. Once the dog hears the bell, he thinks he's going to get food, so he salivates, even without the presence of food.. The end result is a conditioned response. Activity 2 will help you practice this concept. Your task is to condition the dog to salivate when using either light or sound as neutral stimuli. Look at the above picture to emulate the experiment.
